Challenge Tonic is committed to and respects safeguarding your privacy online. When we collect information we take every step to ensure it is treated securely.  We will require your email address if you subscribe to our newsletters and unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. We do however strive to protect your personal information but we can not ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us, you do so at your own risk. Once we receive your transmission, we make our best effort to ensure its security on our systems.

We may need to disclose some information for your booking to go ahead.  By making a booking with us, you agree to us disclosing relevant data for purposes such as : to process your booking and pass on your details to a relevant third party such as accommodation and transport providers, guides and leaders, agents we work with who may not have equal levels of privacy legislation.  We may also disclose data to administer our marketing to improve customer service, for the detection and prevention of fraud or other crime analyse and improve our website; for improving customer service; for the detection and prevention of fraud or other crime and for compliance with legal requirements (which will include passing your information to public authorities such as customs and immigration) and unless you choose to opt out of our marketing we may contact you by email, post or telephone to provide information on similar services you may be interested in.

To improve user experience, like most websites we use 'cookies' to collect anonymous statistics about how people use the site, and to help us keep it relevant for the user. Cookies 'remember' bits of information from your visit to the site. There are two types of cookies a 'session' cookie which lasts as long as your visit to our site, they enable the site to be more user friendly and mean you don't have to keep re-submitting information as you move through the site or carry out transactions.

The other form of cookie is a 'persistent cookies' this remembers information from previous visits - for example names and details for online forms and are used to collect anonymous statistics about how many people use the site, and to maintain any settings (such as accessibility) you have changed.

Challenge Tonic Terms and Conditions

Please read these conditions carefully. All tours are operated by Challenge Tonic Ltd, registered company number 11048260, registered office 20-22 Wenlock Road, London, N17GU (hereafter also called "the Company", "we" or "us") our tours and are operated subject to the following conditions:

1. Interpretation

1.1   The company has agreed to provide a Service in accordance with these Conditions.  The agreement of these terms of the Service as set out herein. The service means the service to be provided by the company for the Client.  The client is the person booking a tour with the Challenge Tonic.

1.2   1.2 The headings in these Conditions are for convenience only and shall not affect their interpretation.

2. Responsibilities.

2.1  Challenge Tonic offers adventure challenges and therefore recognise and advise clients to be aware of the risks involved. Clients booking a tour with us does so at their own risk and should be aware of the potential hazards involved. There is a need to be flexible on a challenge of this kind. The itineraries outlined for each tour must be taken as an aim and not a contractual obligation on the part of the Company. Changes to the itinerary may be caused by local political conditions, weather, mechanical breakdown, border controls, sickness, flight cancellations, or loss or damage to property. It is a fundamental condition of joining any of the tours organised by Challenge Tonic, that you accept the potential hazards and the need for flexibility, and acknowledge that delays and alterations and their results, such as inconvenience, discomfort or disappointment, are possible.

2.2 All clients must agree to observe local laws and customs, and abide by the authority of any tour leader. Signing our booking form signifies your agreement to this, and if you commit any illegal act while on one of our challenges, or, if in the opinion of the tour leader your behavior is causing or likely to cause danger, distress or offence to others you may be asked to leave the tour without the right to a refund. If you are affected by any condition, medical or otherwise, that might affect your or other people's enjoyment of the tour, you must advise us of this at the time of booking. In this event no refund will be made and Challenge Tonic will not accept any further liability or responsibility to the Client.

2.3 The Client accepts responsibility for any damage or loss caused by the Client or any member of the Client’s party to property of Challenge Tonic or any 3rd party. The entire payment for such damage or loss must be made at the time direct to the accommodation owner or manager or other Supplier. If the Client fails to do so, the Client must indemnify Challenge Tonic against any claim (including legal costs) subsequently made against Challenge Tonic as a result of the Client’s actions.

2.4 The entire liability of  Challenge Tonic under or in connection with the Contract shall not exceed the amount of Challenge Tonic charges for the provision of the Service.

2.5 Challenge Tonic warrants to the Client that the Service will be provided using reasonable care and skill, as far as reasonably possible. Where Challenge Tonic supplies in connection with the provision of the Service any goods supplied by a third party, Challenge Tonic does not give any warranty, guarantee or other term as to their quality of fitness for purpose or otherwise.

3. Legal and health requirements

3.1 By booking with Challenge Tonic the client certifies that he/she is in good physical and mental health and is able to take part in the challenge he/ she has booked on to.  It is the Client’s responsibility to ensure that they have taken out the necessary insurance, to include air rescue and cancellation cover, which is compulsory for participation with our challenges. The cost of this is not included in the holiday price. Failure to do this will result in any costs such as air rescue bill for the repatriation of the Client being the responsibility of the Client.

4. Booking terms

4.1 All bookings are made subject to the terms set out in these conditions.  A non-refundable registration fee is required with a completed booking form to book on to a challenge. Confirmation of the booking will normally be sent within 7 working days, a booking is not accepted nor is a contract deemed to exist between us before the date shown on the confirmation invoice. We reserve the right to refuse a booking without explanation, and will refund in full any monies paid.

4.2 Challenges bear a registration fee, the amount will be stated with the booking information and varies with each event, this fee is non-refundable. 

4.3 Self funding Charity Sponsorship - under the self-fund option the registration fee is due upon making the booking and the remaining balance is due from you ten weeks before the challenge departure date. Failure to do this will result in loss of your place and all sponsorship money will be due to your chosen charity immediately.   Registration fees are non-refundable.

4.4 Minimum Sponsorship Pledge - Minimum Sponsorship pledge is the amount set by the charity for which the client is raising funds for.  Under the minimum sponsorship option the registration fee is due from yourself upon booking and you agree to fundraise the Minimum Sponsorship Pledge set by the agreed charity.  The minimum Sponsorship Pledge, will be agreed by your charity’s specific guidelines as outlined prior to booking, it is due ten weeks prior to the trip departure to your charity and the charity will pay us. Failure to do this will result in loss of your space and your registration fee.

4.4.1 The remaining sponsorship should be with your charity before the start of the trip and at the very latest 4 weeks after departure. If you are unable to reach the Minimum Sponsorship Pledge that has been set by your charity you will automatically revert to the self-funder option whereby you pay for the total cost of the challenge yourself and any sponsorship money raised goes directly to your chosen charity. If you reach your Minimum Sponsorship Pledge the charity will pay the balance of your trip.

4.5 Sponsorship Agreement By completing and submitting the booking form you agree that the money raised will not be used for anything other than directly to the charity and if you withdraw or cancel the trip any monies raised will be sent to your charity. All sponsorship money should go directly to your chosen charity.

4.6 Late Payment of Balance. If the Client fails to make a balance payment by the due date, Challenge Tonic reserves the right to levy a late payment fee of £35 per person for each complete week the balance remains unpaid after the due date.

4.7  Payment. Payment can be made using our online booking system, by bank transfer or by debit card. An invoice will be sent for the remainder of the cost of the tour and this must be paid no later than ten weeks before the departure date. If you book less than ten weeks before departure full payment must be made at the time of booking. If the balance is not paid on time we reserve the right to cancel the booking and apply the cancellation charges given below.

5. Cancellation/Amendment by the Client

5.1 If the Client cancels we will need to know in writing and the following cancellation charges will apply:

5.1.1 more than 60 days before departure: loss of deposit/registration fee.

5.1.2 between 30 days and 60 days before departure: 80% of the total cost of the challenge.

5.1.3 less than 30 days before departure: no refund will be paid.

5.2 Notice of cancellation must be given in writing to Date of receipt of written cancellation by Challenge Tonic applies for 5.1.1, 5.1.2, 5.1.3.

5.3 We advise the Client to take out holiday insurance and to ensure that this includes cancellation cover.

5.4 No refund or compensation will be given for any unused portions of the tour, including travel arrangements, accommodation, food and services, should a customer be unable, or choose not to complete a tour or remain with the group.

5.5 Should the client wish to change an existing booking with Challenge Tonic, then an amendment/administration charge will apply. A change of an existing booking (e.g. changing from one course to another) may only be made with the agreement of one of the company directors and there will be a charge of £35.

6. Cancellation by us

6.1 Reasons for cancellation : We will not cancel your challenge unless i) we are forced to do so by unusual or unforeseen circumstances, war, civil or political unrest, or what is usually known as 'force majeure', or ii) the minimum number of people required to operate the tour has not been reached.  In the latter case you will be advised no less than 28 days before the departure date. If we cancel a tour you will be offered an alternative tour if possible. If this is not acceptable then a full refund will be given. However we will not be liable to refund any incidental expenses you may have incurred such as visas, vaccinations, or additional travel arrangements including non refundable connecting flights, and no compensation will be paid.

6.2 Foreign Office Advisories : Challenge Tonic receives regular travel updates from the United Kingdom Foreign and Commonwealth Office and will not knowingly operate trips against the advice from the FCO. Where the FCO advise against ‘all but essential’ travel, the Client is advised to read the relevant advice and to decide whether they wish to be subjected to the risks associated with that country or region. The Client must ensure that their travel insurance is valid notwithstanding the FCO advice. In the event of the FCO changing their advice to ‘all travel’, this constitutes a force majeure and the trip will be cancelled.

If the FCO change their advice to ‘all but essential’ travel after a booking has been made and the Client wishes to cancel their trip, the cancellation charges set out in section 5 will apply.

6.3 Due to the nature of the service Challenge Tonic reserves the right to alter travel arrangements, accommodation and itinerary at any time. In the unlikely event of this happening these will usually, but not necessarily exclusively, be minor changes. No compensation will be payable. Challenge Tonic will always endeavour to maintain the quality of the offer if changes have to be made.

7. Pricing and Travel information

7.1Price Guarantee. All prices listed are accurate at the time of publishing.  We reserve the right to change the price if deemed necessary. Price changes may be due to changes in exchange rates, transport or accommodation costs, or government action etc. Prices may be changed at any time up until a booking has been confirmed. Once a confirmation invoice has been issued we guarantee that the price shown will not be increased, and any subsequent price increases or surcharges will be absorbed by us.

7.2. Travel Information. Any information or advice provided by the Company on matters such as visas, vaccinations, climate, clothing, equipment etc is given in good faith but we cannot be held responsible for any errors or omissions. The client is entirely responsible for obtaining any necessary medical vaccinations or other preliminary travel arrangements, including visas or permits, and any additional costs incurred. Challenge Tonic cannot accept any responsibility for the consequences should visas or vaccinations not be obtained before the departure of the trip.

7.3. Insurance. Before you come on any challenge you should be covered by travel insurance, which must include adequate cover for baggage, personal liability, cancellation and medical expenses and the cost of repatriation should you become too ill to continue with the challenge. We do not offer insurance so you should make alternative arrangements. Any claims concerning matters for which you are insured should be made directly with the insurance company.

7.4. Travel Arrangements. Any travel arrangements booked by the Company, on your behalf, to or from a tour are subject to the conditions of the airline, ferry or bus company concerned, (the “Carrier”) which in general limits the Carrier's responsibility in accordance with international law and conventions. The Company is not responsible for any problems with the  Carrier (including delays, alterations to schedules, a failure or refusal of the Carrier to transport you or your cycle, or any loss or damage to your luggage including cycles), or their results, including the consequent curtailment or amendment of planned itineraries. Any claim should be made directly to the Carrier or your insurer. Cycles are usually transported as part of the passenger’s general luggage allowance, but clients are responsible for ensuring that the Carrier’s conditions for the carriage of cycles are adhered to, and shall be liable for any additional charges that the Carrier shall make for the carriage of their cycle.

8. Complaints

8.1 Should a problem arise during the trip, please inform the leader or a Challenge Tonic representative and/or relevant person (e.g. accommodation manager) immediately who will endeavour to rectify the issue. If your complaint is not resolved locally, and to your satisfaction, please email us at with the Challenge name, departure date, your details and any relevant information to support the issue within 28 days of completion of the service.

8.2 Failure to follow the above procedures during your trip, and/or failure to complain within 28 days of your return, may reduce or extinguish any rights you have to claim compensation from us, or from any relevant supplier. Any such rights will be reduced or extinguished if, had you followed the above procedures during your trip, you or we could have taken steps to reduce any loss or damage suffered or entirely prevented it from being suffered.

9. Acceptance of Risk  

9.1 Our Challenges come with an element of risk. The list below is to inform you of the kinds of risks you could encounter while on one of our challenges.  Whilst we take our responsibility for your safety very seriously, we cannot eliminate risk.

• Strong sun/UV exposure and Cold related injuries

• Adverse/rapidly changing weather conditions (wind/ rain/hail/sleet/snow/sun/storm/lightning).

• Physical and mental exertion (in some cases extreme) and mountain sickness

• Uneven/slippery/dangerous surfaces

• Road travel/road travel accidents.

• Avalanche, rock and ice fall danger

Please remember that different countries may offer reduced medical care/facilities with varied levels of service.General health & safety, political volatility, water/food borne illnesses. Foreign Office Advice – the UK Foreign Office provides useful travel advice by country on its website

9.2 The route may have to change at short notice and other transport may have to be provided if the course is deemed unsafe to continue.

10. Data Protection

Challenge Tonic take protecting the data you provide and your privacy seriously.  We may need to disclose some information for your booking to go ahead.  By making a booking with us, you agree to us disclosing relevant data for purposes such as : to process your booking and pass on your details to a relevant third party such as accommodation and transport providers, guides and leaders, agents we work with who may not have equal levels of privacy legislation.  We may also disclose data to administer our marketing to improve customer service, for the detection and prevention of fraud or other crime analyse and improve our website; for improving customer service; for the detection and prevention of fraud or other crime and for compliance with legal requirements (which will include passing your information to public authorities such as customs and immigration) and unless you choose to opt out of our marketing we may contact you by email, post or telephone to provide information on similar services you may be interested in.  

11. Liability

11.1 Challenge Tonic has full public and products liability insurance as a tour operator for adventurous travel. You can see out policy on request.

11.2 The Company shall not be held liable for any damages caused by the total or partial failure to carry out the contract if such failure is:  i) attributable to the passenger, or ii) unforeseeable or unavoidable and attributable to a third party unconnected to Challenge Tonic, or iii) as a result of unusual and unforeseeable circumstances beyond the control of the Company such as strikes, war, civil or political unrest or what is usually known as 'force majeure', or iv) a result of an event that even with all due care and attention we could not foresee or forestall, or v)due to the theft of equipment or injury as a result of either inadequately maintained and serviced personal equipment, including privately owned bicycles, or the failure to wear appropriate safety equipment, notably appropriate helmets.  Where the Company is found to be liable for damages in respect of its failure to carry out the contract, the maximum amount of such damages will normally be limited to the price paid for the tour.

12. Complaints.

If you have a complaint regarding one of our challenges you should make it known to the tour leader who will normally take the appropriate action. However if, at the end of the tour, you feel that your complaint was not dealt with properly you must notify us of your complaint in writing within 28 days of your scheduled date of return.

13. Cooling off Period.

Information provided on our website is given in good faith but due to a lack of space certain information is not included. When your booking is confirmed you will receive further information on the tour, including any changes to the price or itinerary. If, after receiving this information, you feel the tour is not suitable for you, or that the changes are unacceptable, then you have the right to cancel the tour or transfer the deposit to another tour without any penalty, providing that you do so within 7 days of the date on the confirmation invoice. After this time normal cancellation rates will apply. A 'Cooling Off' period is not permitted on bookings made within 8 weeks of the departure date, clients booking late should ensure that they are satisfied that the tour is suitable for them.

14. Disclaimer

It is your responsibility to ensure that you have read and understood these terms and conditions and by booking you agree to these and acknowledge and declare the following :f

1. I confirm that I am over the age of 18.

2. I confirm that I have read and understand the terms and conditions above and understand the challenge will be physically and mentally demanding.  I confirm that I am in good health and know of no reason, physical or mental why I could be unable to engage in such activity.

3. I agree to be bound by and obey these terms and conditions and all other rules, regulations and conditions of Challenge Tonic and its representatives, including those rules, regulations or conditions contained in this Disclaimer and any other applicable safety rules.

4. I acknowledge that I owe a duty to myself and others whilst engaging in any activity provided by Challenge Tonic to ensure that I do not take any action or fail to do anything which would endanger my safety and/or the safety of others.

5. I confirm that I will not attempt to repair, modify or tamper with any equipment provided to me for any purpose whilst engaging in any activity and will comply with all instructions in relation to the safe and proper use of such equipment.

6. I agree to pay to Challenge Tonic Ltd a sum equivalent to the new value of the item plus an administration charge of £50 if I fail to return or damage beyond repair any equipment provided to me by Challenge Tonic Ltd.

9. I acknowledge that engaging in the activity provided by Challenge Tonic may be dangerous. I recognise that engaging in any activity is at my own risk and I confirm that Challenge Tonic leaders area entitled at any time for whatever reason to deny me access and/ or engagement in any activity. I will not hold Challenge Tonic Ltd or any of its representatives responsible for any illness, loss, injury or death sustained before, during or after participation in an activity provided by Challenge Tonic.

10. I confirm that I understand the necessity to take out appropriate insurance for the activity.

15 .Contract.

By placing a booking with Challenge Tonic you agree to accept all these conditions and by accepting your booking we agree to carry out our obligations as defined. This agreement is made subject to, and must be interpreted and enforced according to English law in an English court.
